Gonadotropins are key endocrine effectors of the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal (HPG) axis and mainly include follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), as well as the placental hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which exerts LH-like activity.
