Coffee Compounds

Cafestol (C274912 98%) and Kahweol (K274796 97%) are naturally occurring diterpenes present in coffee beans. These compounds and their derivatives demonstrate a wide range of biological activities, including chemopreventive, antioxidative, anti-angiogenic, and anticancer effects.

Epidemiological studies show that regular consumption of unfiltered coffee is linked to a decreased incidence of colon cancer. In animal models of colon carcinogenesis, Cafestol Palmitate (C274886 98%) and Kahweol Palmitate reduce the formation of DNA adducts induced by the carcinogen PhIP. This protective effect may stem from their ability to enhance the expression of glutathione-S-transferase, a phase II detoxification enzyme.

Both cafestol and kahweol exhibit anti-angiogenic and anti-inflammatory actions across several angiogenesis models. They inhibit tube formation as well as endothelial cell migration, invasion, and proliferation. Kahweol specifically suppresses the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators such as COX-2 and MCP-1.

Additionally, kahweol interferes with the differentiation of bone marrow–derived macrophages and monocytes into osteoclasts. By preventing osteoclast formation, it helps protect against bone resorption, thereby supporting bone strength and structural integrity.
