Gelatin has no fixed structure or relative molecular mass. It is degraded from collagen in connective tissues such as animal skin, bones, sarcolemma and fascia, forming white or pale yellow, translucent and slightly glossy flakes or particles. As a colorless, odorless, non-volatile, transparent and hard amorphous substance, it dissolves in hot water but not cold water, and slowly absorbs water to swell and soften, absorbing water 5 to 10 times its own weight.Gelatin is mainly a mixture of polypeptides with identical amino acid compositions and broad molecular weight distribution, ranging from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands. It is amphoteric with both acidic and alkaline properties. Its colloidal particles carry electric charges and migrate towards one electrode under an electric field. Abundant hydroxyl, carboxyl and amino groups in its molecular structure endow gelatin with strong hydrophilicity. As an important natural biological macromolecular material, gelatin is widely used in food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries.
Gelatin Aqueous Solution (5%, Sterile) is mainly composed of high-purity gelatin and deionized water, and has undergone sterile treatment. It appears as a pale yellow viscous liquid or jelly at room temperature, and needs to be heated to dissolve before use. It is commonly used as an adhesive and additive. This product is for research use only and not for other purposes.
