Tyrosinase (EC 1.14.18.1) is a prototypical type-3 binuclear copper oxidase that uses molecular oxygen as the oxidant to catalyze the ortho-hydroxylation of monophenolic substrates to o-diphenols and further oxidize o-diphenols to the corresponding o-quinones.
